Our intern orientation was a successful. We spent 2 weeks training our new interns to use our computer system, pagers, etc. Of course, a large part of this training was also team bonding and getting to know our new recruits. It was a blast!
Our first day was capped with a faculty/resident mixer on campus. We had an excellent turn out from the incoming intern class and current residents. Many tasty treats and caffeinated beverages were enjoyed. Most of our APDs were there for the occasion, and Dr. Oxentenko was making the rounds as well. The night ended with a concert showcasing the talents of our residents. It included some beautiful singing, oboe, ukulele, and piano.
Between training sessions and PowerPoint overload, we also enjoyed the Minnesota sunshine at several social events. This included a happy hour at La Vetta's rooftop bar,
...and a picnic at Quarry Hill Park. We had a very nice time despite a little cold snap. You'll notice our residents are quite adept at yard games. And yes...that is Dagny playing life-sized Jenga.
As graduating residents, we (the new chiefs) said goodbye to many of our friends and classmates who are moving on to jobs and training programs elsewhere. Thomas Cotter, our three year unofficial "social event organizer", threw an epic goodbye party at Half Barrel. It was a nice way to toast our classmates in their future endeavors. Here is a group pic from the night. (I'm not sure how we fit everyone in the photo!)
